Johann August (Georg) Hoffmann was born in a village in Thuringia called Christes, in 1844 or 1845. His mother was Dorothea (or Susanna) Hoffmann, father was Johann Hoffmann. He had 2 brothers, John Hoffmann (1852 to 1917) and Frederick Hoffmann.
August (and they) immigrated to the US between 1866-1868.
August married Anna Schultz (born in Hessen) on 6 April 1870 at St James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. They had 6 children: Lena (Helena), Georgianna, August, Annie (died as child), Dorothy, Wilhelm (died as newborn).
The family lived at 131 and 129 Dana Street, 1931 Orianna St, 907 W Dauphin St and 2235 Berks St at various times.
Their children were baptised at either St Jacobus (James) Evangelical Lutheran Church or St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
August lived at the German Protestant Home in Lawndale at the time of his death in 1908.
