Adelaide married Jose Maria Gomes, also from the Azores, and together they immigrated to America in the late 1890's, settling in Madera, CA, where they established and operated a small dairy and farmed in the Storey District. They brought with them a strong work ethic, laced with honor and integrity, which they instilled in their offspring.
Together this Portuguese immigrant couple had 7 children: sons Leno, Joseph, Louis, and Walter, and daughters Lorraine Victorine, Lily, and Dorothy.
After WWII, the sons returned from military duty to run the dairy. Eventually the land was converted to Pistachios.
