After graduation, Glen joined the Army Air Corps. He graduated from gunnery school and flew B-17s with the 391st Bomb Group as a tail gunner. Glen flew more combat missions over Europe than any other airman from the State, receiving many commendations. He married Lorraine Lewis on July 24, 1948, who predeceased him in 1980. Glen was a well-known carpenter and builder in the Guilford area. He belonged to the Guilford Fire Dept. serving as chief from 1959 to 1963.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Burgess of Abbot and Eric and his wife, Darlene of Guilford; five grandchildren, Katrina Pratt of Abbot, Shawn, Chad, Randy and Alan Burgess, all of Guilford; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Nicholas Pratt of Abbot; a sister, Avis and her husband, Edwin Edes of Guilford; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Lewis of Massachusetts, Donald Lewis and his wife, Dorothy of Dover-Foxcroft; a sister-in-law, Joan Flood and her husband, Dell of Plymouth; a special nephew, Alan Flood of Newport; many other special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Michael in 1996; and a brother, Erwin in 1984.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Grover White officiating. Burial will be in Guilford Center Cemetery in Guilford. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the Guilford Fire Department, care of the Town of Guilford, P.O. Box 355, Guilford, Me. 04443.
