Newton I. Brown, aged 76 years, 10 months and seven days, well known resident of the Waynesburg community, died at 8 o'clock last night, September 20, in the Greene County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness due to a complication of ailments.
A son of the late Ambrose and Kate Loughlin Brown, he was born November 13, 1860, at Carmichaels and was a lifelong resident of Greene County, having spent the greater part of his life in the Waynesburg community. He married Mary Gordon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gordon, deceased, who survives with ten children, namely: George W. Brown, of Parkersburg, W. Va.; Barnett W. Brown, of Moundsville; Mark G. Brown, of Waynesburg; Margaret D. Brown, at home: Ambrose H. Brown, of Martins Ferry, O.; Mrs. Ray Mason, of Kirby; Mrs. William Phillips and Mrs. Sherman Roberts, of Waynesburg; Mrs. Robert Coombs, of Moundsville, W. Va., and Edgar J. Brown, at home. He also leaves 27 grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. John Miller, of Washington, Pa.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon. Short services will be held at the Brown home on Sugar Run, south of Waynesburg, at 1:15 o'clock with further rites at 2 o'clock in the Fairlall Methodist Episcopal Church, Whiteley Township. The services will be in charge of the Rev. Paul P. Holden, pastor of the Methodist Protestant Church of Waynesburg. Burial will be in the Fairall Cemetery.
