Gertrude Adams-Powers of Portland passed away Sept. 11, 2012. Born in Mississippi on July 28, 1922 to William and Ada Bates. Gertrude graduated from Columbia High School in Columbia, La. Gertrude met and married Sgt. Alvin Adams while working as a civilian at Camp Claybourne Army Base in Louisiana. Gertrude and Alvin, along with their two daughters, relocated to Portland in the mid 40s where they added another daughter. Gertrude is survived by daughters, Barbara, Anne and Linda; grandchildren, William, Kelly, Jason, Colby and Anna; and great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Chase and Clara. We will miss that beautiful redhead with the beautiful smile.
