The son of Russell and Dolores (Wade)Smith. Brother of Stacy, Jeff, Steve, Eric. Baptized in the Catholic Church, St. Andrews, Saline Michigan. God Parents Paul and Pam Makara. First Communion and Confirmation, Our Lady of Victory Church, Northville Michigan. Rite of Christian Burial September 6, 1997. Burial, Mount Hope Cemetery, Litchfield Michigan.

Dave's life is symbolized in this picture. The hazards of white water, the ups and downs. Dave was never the one to sit back and go along with his life, but, he was up front and challenged the adventure.

Dave's life was an adventure. He wanted to go places and do things. His love of automobiles let him learn about drag racing, the love of NASCAR, and later automotive design as his profession. His love of people was clear when you saw how people reacted to him in conversation. He enjoyed the excitement of almost everything he did. His love of hunting lead Dave to hunting camp, to snow mobiles, but most of all to be with his friends and have a sip of beer.

His mother and father remember another David, as a boy who would set in the car turning the steering wheel back and forth, making the sounds of an engine. He didn't let a Little League broken leg keep him from swimming in the neighbors pool. He just fugured out a way to keep the cast on the dry deck while the rest of him was in the pool splashing away. They also remember his trips to the swamp behind the subdivision, bringing back all sorts of creatures! They remember the Smith and Flora boys heading across the yards, sleeping bags over their shoulders; if they were heading over to the Flora's that was where they stayed the night, if they were heading to the Smith home, Russ and Dee were in for a noisy night ahead! Imagine if you can, 7 boys sleeping in sleeping bags on the floor in just a small bedroom.

David's parents also remember the paper route working at the kennels, his school auto mechanics classes. He didn't like his father cutting his hair, so he used his own money to have his hair cut. Dave spent many hours in Don McElroy's garage learning about how to make a car go fast. He would pop in the door and say "Don's racing tonight, see ya".

Russ remembers when Dave and he went to Imlay City, where the horse "Ole Eden" won his first two races in his life. Stopping on the way home a couple of times, it was so exciting. Trips by the boys to New Jersey to visit in Dave's car. What a car, Dave always made them run, somehow!! Daves life was an adventure.

Now he has left his body behind for his greatest adventure, with God.

MY WISH
To see your smile would light my eyes,
To hear your voice would lift my heart.
To only feel your touch, so warm and gentle,
would mean so much.
To have you at my side,
To hear the whisper of your lips.
To feel your warm breath on my face,
And see your face close to my own.
To have you make me feel wanted and never alone.
To stop the world and be with you.
If only for and hour, is my only wish.
