A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-seven in Harrisburg September 3, mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. E, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, but promoted to sergeant September 8. He honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865.
After the war, he moved to Allegheny County where he worked as an auctioneer and fruit merchant and died in Allegheny City (now Pittsburgh). He had been a member of Wilson Post No. 134, G.A.R. located in Mifflintown, Juniata County.
