ENGINEER'S HEROIC ACT.

Leaps from Cab and Saves Boy Who Had Fallen Into Stream.

Fond du Lac, Wis. June 26. —

Bringing his fast express train to a sudden stop, leaping from his cab and plunging Into the waters of Mud creek, Engineer J. A. Tynan Wednesday made a most thrilling rescue of a drowning boy.

Tynan, a passenger engineer on the Wisconsin Central, when approaching Mud creek, near Hilbert Junction, on his run from Manitowoc to Neenah, caught sight of a boy seated on the bridge fishing, wholly oblivious of approaching danger. There was an instant closing of the throttle, an application of the air, and then came a crunching of wheels, but before the train could be stopped the bridge had been passed.

Whether the boy in his fright jumped off into the water, or fell, or was swept off by the train is not known. When Tynan leaped from his engine the little fellow was struggling in the stream below, absolutely helpless.

Then it was that the engineer plunged down the bank into the water, wading, swimming and finally diving to reach the boy, coming up a few momenta later with the lad almost exhausted.

When asked about it, Tynan said: "I just jumped in and swam to him and got him out. It was nothing."
