CHARLES GLADDING.
His Sudden Death at Rome, Italy, on Wednesday.
News of the sudden death of Charles Gladding at Rome, Italy, on Wednesday last was a most unexpected blow to his family and many friends and a most sorrowful ending to a trip which was undertaken some months since for rest and relaxation.
Mr. Gladding was born In Western New York in 1829, but moved to Chicago soon after coming of age, and was identified with the business Interests of that city for over twenty years. Nineteen years ago he came to Sanu Francisco and with some other gentlemen engaged in the manufacture of terra-cotta ware under the firm name or Gladding, McBean & Co., and of this firm he was senior partner at the lime of his demise.
As a soldier Mr. Cladding's record was a notable one, since when the Civil War began he was one of the first to enlist in the State of Illinois and served his country with distinction until his honorable discharge in 1863. The Loyal Legion and the George H. Thomas Post of the Grand Army of the Republic both counted him as one of their most prominent and active members. The bereaved family consists of a widow, two sons and a daughter.

Charles Gladding was a Civil War Veteran He was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant Company K, 72nd Illinois Infantry. Muster in date was 21 August 1862 at Chicago, Illinois. Muster out (resigned) date was 15 September 1863. He was also a G A R member of Sumner Post #3, Sacramento, CA
