Born "About 1770" and reared in County Down, North Ireland. He married Agnes Sample (born about 1770 in North Ireland) about 1788 in Tyrone, North Ireland.

Hugh was a Covenentor, and a landed gentleman. Political differences sent them to America in 1791 or 1792, one jump ahead of the king's soldiers. Settled in eastern Pennsylvania ia Kicklacocquiltos Valley PA, near Lewistown PA, daughter Jinnie born there.

There are storied that both Hugh Braham and a brother immigrated through Philadelphia. If so, then the brother may have gone to West Virginia as some data suggests a relationship with the Braham family that settled there.

You will find in the old English books that the name Braham is a very old name in England. There is a town called Braham in Northumberlandshire. It is listed as one of the very old names in Suffolk. The name appears somewhat also in Scotland.

In 1807 moved to a farm near New Castle. Hugh Braham lived for 15 years, or thereabouts, after moving to western PA. Left the management of his farm to a competent farmer and to his young son Samuel was himself a drover. On one of these trips he became ill of the fever and died, buried east of the mountains. Hugh had two children, Samuel and Jinnie. They both married Pattons.
