LCpl Caceres was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. He is honored on Panel 7E, Row 51 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

An extended article by Charles Rice in the Tacoma (WA) News Tribune, 17 May 1966, told of his family's grief at losing him a few short weeks before he was scheduled to come home, and his letters to them before he died. Edgardo was an outstanding track and boxing athlete at Clover Park High School before joining the Marine Corps, and was also a winner of the school's Inspiration Award. He was survived by his parents, four sisters, and one brother.

These men are from the 3rd Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, Bravo Company, "The Walking Dead", who fought and (most) died on 12 May 1966 in South Vietnam, Quang Nam province. Pvt. Reuben Morales, 19, La Puente CA and Pfc. James K. Binkley, 19, Ashland City TN were the sole survivors of the patrol.
