Hugh Scott Dead
Hugh E. Scott was born August 15, 1824 in Spencer Township, Guernsey County, Ohio.
He lived at that place with his parents until the fall of 1850, when he moved to
Springfield, Ill. He was united in marriage to Margaret Anne Wilson of Springfield, Nov.
5, 1850.
To them eleven children were born, two dying in infancy: Edward at the age of two
years and Eunola May aged three years. Nannie the oldest daughter died in 1885, she
married Alfred Titus of Springfield some years before.
The children living are Mrs. H. Machiels of Blue Mound, Mrs. Cora Miller (should have
read "Miles" not Miller), Lawrence, Kansas, rs. Nona Sieldler (should have read Elenora
Siedler) of Michigan and Leonard, Anna (should have read Armine, not Anna) and H. Fred Scott of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also has one brother, Harvey Scott of Denver,
Colo. and two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Adamson of Moweaque and Susie Culver of
Denver, Colo.
He moved to Kansas in the fall of 1851 where he lived till the death of his wife in 1897
when he returned to Blue Mound. He joined the the M. E. church on Christmas day
1840 and remained a consistent member ever since.
The relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were his three sons
Leonard, Armine, and H. Fred Scott. His daughter, Nona Siedler, his grandson Otto
Machiels and wife and one granddaughter of St. Louis Alt L, Tituas John Culver of
Decatur and Will Culver of Moweaqua, his sister, Josephine Adamson and family of
Moweaqua.
The deceased died of senility of St. Mary's Hospital at Decatur, Ill. At 9:30 A.M.
The remains were brought to Blue Mound to the home of his eldest child Mrs. Hattie
Machiel's and then to the M.E. church where services were conducted on Sunday at
9:30 A.M.
The remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife in the beautiful little cemetery at
Grove City
