Daniel was raised in Hutchinson, MN. His family owned the Park Hotel where he worked parttime as well as at Hutchinson Produce. He graduated in 1932.
He married Miss Helen Schiller in Mpls on February 19, 1942. At that time, Dan was a machinist there. In July, Dan entered the Army and served four years as a chief radar operator with a rank of sargeant.
