It is with feelings of deep sorrow and regret that we chronicle the death of a brother, William Crowe of Liberty, who departed this life last Friday morning at 6:30 o'clock. It is always sad to stand in the presence of death but when the one summoned is a brother, a man of usefulness, the father of a family and the embodiment of all that is good in human nature it is afflictive in a high degree and leaves us with a bewildered mind and broken heart. Death was due to an affection of the spinal column, from which he had suffered for five months.
Everything that medical skill could do for his relief was done all to no purpose. The end was expected as he had been sinking gradually for several weeks. Despite the pain he suffered, he bore up well and to the last was cheerful and brave.
Mr. Crowe was born in the town of Liberty in 1858 where he resided all his life. He attended the public school in his native town and when he had grown to manhood he secured a teacher's certificate and taught school in this county for four years. He then abandoned teaching and purchased a farm across the road from the old homestead, on which he resided until his death. He was industrious and wide-awake and made farming pay. He was clerk of the school board for about twenty years and town clerk for six years and was re elected to that office last spring. Wm.
Crowe was married to Ellen O'Shea June 27, 1888, who together with five children survive him. The children are Gerald, Francis, Isabel, Margaret, and Eleanor. He is also survived by three brothers, Joseph and James of Milwaukee and E.S. Crowe of this city.
Mr. Crowe was devoted to his family and relatives and they were devoted to him. He was an indulgent father, a kind husband, an affectionate brother, an honest man and a good citizen. The funeral was held Monday forenoon from St. Gregory's Church at St. Nazianz. Father Michels performed the last sad rites. Peace to the soul of William Crowe. [goes on to list several people from out of town who attended funeral]
