Joseph Emil Ebenhoe, 69, St. Nazianz businessman, died at his home early
Saturday morning of a heart attack. Mr. Ebenhoe, who lived in quarters
above his tavern, arose at 4:30 a.m. and went downstairs. Despite the fact
it was warm in the house he returned upstairs complaining he was cold.
His wife helped him back into bed and called a doctor. Mr. Ebenhoe was
dead when the doctor arrived.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gregory Catholic Church,
St. Nazianz, the Rev. Dennis Cooney officiating. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
Mr. Ebenhoe was born Nov. 1, 1888, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Ebenhoe, at Clarks Mills. He married the former Rose G. Stahl of St. Nazianz
Sept. 13, 1910 and for many years operated the (illegible) of Valders in the
Town of Eaton. They later moved to Manitowoc where he worked for many
years in the rolling mills and later at the shipyard, retiring in 1944. Following
retirement he sold his holding in Manitowoc and move to St. Nazianz where
he took over the tavern which he has since operated with his son, Thomas.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows.
Survivors include his wife, daughter, Mrs. Chester Wiltgen of Two Rivers;
son, Thomas of St. Nazianz; sister, Mrs. Marcus Denk of Manitowoc; two
brothers, Wenzel Ebenhoe of Brillion and John of Manitowoc; three grand
children and four great grandchildren.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kellenbenz Funeral Home,
St. Nazianz, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

He then moved to St. Nazianz where he took over the tavern which he has operated with his son, Thomas." –Joseph and his son Thomas purchased the Eaton House Saloon at 105 South Second Avenue in St. Nazianz on May 20, 1948 –on Sept. 21, 1951, Thomas sold his half interest in this business to his father –after Joseph's death in 1957, Thomas became sole owner on Jan. 3, 1961, changing the name of the business to the Tom Cat Lounge –on Sept. 30, 1953 purchased the Custerdale house at 305 West Main Street in St. Nazianz –lived in this house until his death in 1957 –his widow Rose then sold this house on Jan. 2, 1958 –died from "heart disease –coronary thrombosis –hypertension" –" Mr. Ebenhoe, who lived in quarters above his tavern, arose at 4:30 a.m. and went downstairs.
