Platten, John (Feb. 25, 1854-March 22, 1944 –husband of Mary Schnettler [married Nov. 5, 1883 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton –no children came from this marriage though there were two adopted children, Peter and Hildegard] –son of Peter Kastor Platten and Katharina Meyer –born Pine Grove, Brown County –farmer in Town of Liberty –in 1863 moved with parents from Brown County to the farm at 7528 Marken Road in Section 29, Town of Liberty –on Oct. 25, 1883 purchased the 80 acre farm at 7131 Tompkins Road in Section 19, Town of Liberty –owned this farm until selling on April 7, 1913 to his adopted son Peter Platten –on Feb. 13, 1912 purchased the house at 203 East Main Street in St. Nazianz –his wife Mary lived in this house until her death on Dec. 8, 1924 –John lived here until selling on Dec. 20, 1937 –died from “myocardial failure –senility –coronary sclerosis”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 3, Row 8, Lot 2 –stone] [marriage record Manitowoc 5-166] [death record Manitowoc 37-192]

JOHN PLATTEN of St. Nazianz (photo), who late last month observed his 90th birthday, died last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Schnettler, in the village, with whom he resided. He had been seriously ill two weeks.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the St. Gregory's Catholic church in St. Nazianz. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Platten was born in Pine Grove, Brown county, in 1854 and accompanied his parents to a farm in this county when nine years old. In 1889 he married Miss Mary Schnettler and they located on a farm east of St. Nazianz, adjoining the Platten homestead. He also operated a lime kiln near the village.
In 1930 Mr. Platten retired from farming and moved into St. Nazianz. His wife died 19 years ago.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. John Schnettler, St. Nazianz; son, Peter, on the homestead farm; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Kellenbenz and Mrs. Susan Burkard, both of St. Nazianz; two brothers, Peter, St. Naziana, and Adam, Loyal, Wis.; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Platten was a charter member of the Holy Name society in St. Nazianz.
The members will meet at the Kellenbenz funeral home in the village to recite the rosary Sunday evening. The body may be viewed from Saturday noon at the funeral home.
