Schleh, Joseph (March 12, 1900-July 16, 1983 –husband of Leona Gaerthoefner [married June 12, 1919 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –son of Anton Schleh and Theresa Kaltenbrun –from Sept. 20, 1928 to Aug. 18, 1936, Joseph owned the 72.5 acre farm at 17618 Matznick Road in Section 1, Town of Schleswig –on Aug. 18, 1936 purchased the St. Nazianz Meat Market at 207 South Fourth Avenue –after the meat market closed in 1970, Joseph sold this building to his daughter Betty Faye Schleh on Jan. 24, 1978 –“Joe would buy cows, pigs and chickens from local farmers and butcher them to sell in the meat market.” –died from “acute myocardial infarction –arteriosclerotic heart disease”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 5, Row 6, Lot 21] [ marriage record Manitowoc 15-373] [death record Manitowoc 85-86]

JOSEPH SCHLEH

Joseph L. Schleh, 83, of 207 S. 4th Ave., St. Nazianz, died early Saturday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services were at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at Christianson-Deja Funeral Home, St. Nazianz, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church. The Rev. Cletus LaMere officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Schleh was born March 12, 1900, at rural Kiel, son of the late Anton and Theresa Kaltenbrun Schleh. He attended St. Gregory School. He married Leona Garthoeffner June 12, 1919 at St. Nazianz. The couple farmed until 1936, and from 1936 until retirement in 1970 Mr. Schleh operated the St. St.(sic) Nazianz Meat Market. His wife died July 22, 1978.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Roman and Arlene Schleh of St. Nazianz; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty Faye Schleh of St. Nazianz, Joann and Jerry Ryan of Manitowoc and Margie and James Schnell of Sheboygan; two brothers, Ray Schleh of Chilton and Richard Schleh of Manitowoc; four sisters, Mrs. Bill (Freida) Groh of New Holstein, Mrs. Harvey (Hilda) Horstman of Valders, Mrs. Gordon (Margaret) Fries of Newton and Mrs. Edward (Leona) Tompkins of Kiel; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Jerry; a daughter-in-law, Margaret; a brother and two sisters.
