Robert L. Bitner, 85, of Kecksburg, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012. Born Jan. 26, 1927, in Mammoth, he was a son of the late A. Clyde and Mabel F. (Sweeney) Bitner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie "Jane" (Craig) Bitner, on Sept. 10, 1994; a daughter, Karen A. Breidenbach, on June 24, 2002; two brothers, Jack and twin brother, Paul Bitner; and a sister, Geraldine Wright. He was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United, and the church choir for many years. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a dock worker by Cooper Jarrett Trucking. Robert was a lifetime member of Kecksburg VFD with 50 years of service and had served as a past chief and assistant chief. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard, having served during World War II, and was a member of VFW Post 3368, Mt. Pleasant, BPOE, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, and Mohawk Association of Westmoreland County Firemen's Association. Robert is survived by a son, Robert "Robbie" Bitner, of Mammoth; two grandchildren, Corey (Paige) Breidenbach and Sheri (Adrian) Campose; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Kemp, of Indian Head; a brother, Clyde (Lois) Bitner, of Yalaha, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Road, Norvelt 15674. A blessing service will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Florian Church with the Rev. Richard P. Karenbauer as celebrant. Interment to follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township, with military honors accorded by Armbrust Veterans Association. Military will hold a service at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The St. Florian choir will meet at 6 p.m. Monday to pray the rosary in the funeral home.
