Stanley Hubka Dies

The death on Tuesday of Stanley Hubka 61, removed a member of the Hubka brothers' brass band, a rural farmers' organization made up of the family of that name living in the community. The band disbanded some years ago, formerly played at numorous local entertainments, and often at more distant places.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bacholor-Faulkner chapel, and burial will be in the National Cemetery south of Narka.

Stanley was in a band with his other brothers called "The Hubka EIGHT BROTHERS BAND." The Belleville Telescope, April 6, 1922 issue had this article about them.

The Hubka EIGHT BROTHERS BAND
Made up entirely of eight brothers, the Hubka Bros. band, near Narka.- The band was organized in 1908 with Stanley Hubka as leader, and maintained its original organization since the personel of the band and the instruments played are as follows, Top row left to right: Stanley Hubka, Bb solo cornet; Fred Hubkla, 2nd cornet; Bohumil Hubka, solo Bb clarinet; Charlie Hubka, Eb clarinet; Lower row, left to right: Amos Hubka, Eb bass; Rudolph Hubka, Eb alto; August Hubka, solo alto; and Lloyd Hubka, Eb baritone. (There was a photo of the band.)

In the next issue of the Belleville Telescope Apr. 13, 1922 was more about the band, in part was "Stanley Hubka, the leader, when 16 years of age played in the Old Soldiers' Home Military Band at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas."
