Services for Alia Maxwell, 65, of Georgetown will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Georgetown Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Georgetown Cemetery, Hartmen Funeral Home, Hazlehurst, in charge. Maxwell, Georgetown town clerk, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hazlehurst Hospital following a heart attack. Maxwell had served at town clerk for the past 25 years. He had been an employee of the Georgetown Mercantile Co. since 1918, serving as general manager for the past 20 years. Maxwell owned and operated his own grocery store, the Maxwell Grocery, also.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ena Brown Maxwell of Georgetown; one son, James Maxwell of Mendenhall; one daughter, Mrs. Frank Slay Jr. of Mendenhall; his mother, Mrs. Carris Smith Maxwell, Georgetown; three brothers, V. L. and H. L. Maxwell, Grand Bay, Ala. and Leland Maxwell, Memphis, Tenn. The body will be at Georgetown Baptist Church an hour before time for services.
