Gladys J Brewer, 84, of 115 S. Eighth St. Murphysboro, died Sunday, Jan 8, 1984, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Mrs. Brewer was a retired schoolteacher, having started her career in 1919. Schools she formerly taught include Creath, Crain, Logan Hollow, Gorham, Chester Catholic, Walsbeezer, Sand Ridge and Grimsby. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Murphysboro, St. Ann's Altar Society, Murphysboro Senior Citizens and the Retired Teachers Association. She attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and received her bachelor's degree from McKendree College.

She was born Feb. 22, 1899, in Ava, to Edward and Cora Brouillette Korando.

She married Earl Brewer in 1921 in Raddle. He died in April 1969.

Three sisters and one grandson also preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Denver, of Murphysboro, one daughter, Eileen Przvchodzin of Loveland, Colo., eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two brothers. Oliver Korando of Murphysboro and Mitchell Korando of Ava.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p m. Tuesday.
