Sam Reed was my uncle on my mothers side. Sam was shot on June 6, 1944 while unloading from a landing craft on Normandy Beach. Sam was buried in a mass grave in France. In 1949, his remains were exhumed and returned home for burial. Sam was given a military funeral and buried beside his mother. There was a white cross on his grave for many years until it was discarded. His grave is now unmarked. Several years ago, I contacted the Army about his military records so a veterans memorial could be placed on his grave. The Army said his records were destroyed in a fire. Efforts are under way to place a military marker on his grave. Sammy Garner
