He was born, the son of Johann and Dorothea Schimko Christophory, in the German community in Stoosz, Hungary (now Stos in Slovakia). After the death of his wife, Anna Maria Hübler, he migrated to the United States, arriving in Baltimore June 30, 1894. He joined his three children who had come to Pittsburgh previously. He is buried in the First St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Oliver, near Pittsburgh. In church records, cause of death is simply given as "old age."
