A little bit before 10 tonight
our Chickadee took her freedom flight.
She fought a brave battle
that she couldn't win.
Only God knows
how we're feeling within.
I remember the day we got this sweet dog…
we drove thru a thick heavy Michigan fog
to get to the place…Oh won't it be great?
If only we'd make it and not be too late.
And make it we did, all thanks to high powers;
we beat all the others and Chicky was OURS!!
She'd always steal a sock or a shoe
so she could sleep with the smell of you.
She'd carry it off to her little nest;
She never got scolded cuz she was the best!
How odd that she'd die on the night of the Storm;
Her body, now stiffened , she's no longer warm…
so, latch onto an angel and hitch a ride,
and thanks for the years you spent by my side.

Heartfelt thanks to the people at the Great Lakes Pet Emergency clinic who are there all night long when people like me have to make that hard final decision.
