Christ Lambka, 85, who came to Elkhart from his native Germany 58 years ago, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Harry and Gertrude Swartz, 1106 Princeton boulevard.
Two weeks ago today, while seated on a bench in the rear yard of the Swartz home, he suffered an apoplectic stroke and was noticed lying unconscious by a neighbor. Later the stricken man regained consciousness, but remained helpless and unable to talk.
The deceased, who was born in Mecklenburg on Sept. 26, 1854, the son of John and Christine (Timn) Lambka, was married to Augusta Heiden in 1879, and three years later they came to America and direct to Elkhart.
Mr. Lambka worked the Lake Shore boiler shop until 25 years ago, then bought a farm on the Pleasant Plain road. Since the death of Mrs. Lambka, May 2, 1936, he had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Swartz.
Surviving are four children - Mrs. Swartz and Fred Lambka of Elkhart, Mrs. Lon (Carrie) Mowery of Los Angeles and Mrs. Ed (Elizabeth) Sohm of Cleveland, O.;
six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The body has been returned from the Charles Walley mortuary to the Swartz home, where the service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, with burial in Grace Lawn.
The services will be in charge of the Rev. P. Hubert Konrad of the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church, of which Mr. Lambka was a member.
