Bio

Hi there my name is Danny Cook, I am the 3rd son of the late Bethel and Helen Cook of Bald Knob West Virginia, Boone County. I have 6 sister and 2 brother . I was born and raised in James Creek witch in now known as James Branch Rd. in Bald Knob witch in now known as Wharton West Virginia, Boone County. I was born on March 9th 1964 and have lived on James Branch Rd. all my life. In 1999 I meet the love if my life Tina (Barker) Cook and she is the 3rd daughter of the late Ernest and Barbara Barker of Clothier West Virginia and she has 5 brothers and 2 sister.

In 1984 I started working on cemeteries in the area so that the Coal, Gas, Logging, and Housing Company would know where the cemeteries was at. I tried to keep them cleaned off and tried to put up signs to let people know the name of the cemeteries and for years I kept running into a brick wall until 2007 when I joined up with the Ohio Villey Environmental Coalition (OVEC) and they help me in the right direction. After becoming a volunteer with OVEC I've had the opportunity to go to classes to learn how to care for cemeteries. I have learned how to clean headstones, find unmarked grave, I am able to identfy all stone and what kind of rock they are made of and how to fix broken headstones and get all cemeteries register with the State Historic Office in Charleston West Virginia. I have been to Virginia and Kentucky to do workshops on how to care for cemeteries.

My gold in the next year is to start a volunteer group to help clean and care for cemeteries in the state of West Virginia.

So for more info on how to become a volunteer member contact me by calling (304)247-6943 or (304)247-6036, E-mail at [email protected] or find me on Facebook
