Bio

I am researching my mothers family tree of the Barry family from Launceston Tasmania.

My great great grandfather was James Barry from Cork Ireland.

His son Joseph Thomas Barry was born in 1861 in Launceston Tasmania Australia. He married Kate Costain

They married at the Church of the Apostles Launceston on 12.5.1886

They had 5 boys and 4 girls .

They lived at 23 Quarry Road Launceston Tasmania

Julia Ellen Barry was one of the daughters along with my Grandfather Arthur Joseph Vincent Barry.

Julia married Frank Henry Goodwin at Hastings Victoria and lived most of their lives on the Base at Crib Point and then in the township of Crib Point.

My grandfather Arthur married Grace Mills and lived in Launceston Tasmania and in approximately 1933 they moved to Victoria. Their first address was 17 Gratton Street Carlton followed by 195 Punt Road Richmond Victoria.

Grace and Arthurs children were:-

John Michael (Jack ) Barry
Jeffrey Vincent Barry
Joan Kathleen Barry
Doreen Alice Barry (my mother)

My mother married on 31.7.1943 at Holy Trinity Church East Melbourne Victoria and went on to have 8 children in Tasmania.

I recently met Wayne Joseph Barry son of my mothers brother Jack Barry above. As a result he told me what happened to Julia Ellen (Nellie) Barry.

He only had a vague recollection of her life but remembered she married a 'Goodwin' and they lived at Crib Point. I have now found out more about this family.

I met with the Curator of the HMAS Cereberus Museum and found out about his military navy history. I also saw a group photo of all the maintenance/gardening staff at HMAS Cereberus and Frank was in that photo.

I visited Crib Point Cemetery but like most of my family members he does not have a headstone.

Also searching my Paternal side as well Hanson,Cuthbert,Snowdowne, pottie,Mitchell in Scotland and descendents in Canada, South Africa, New Hampshire, Australia and specifically Victoria and Tasmania

I will post further details as they come to hand .
