Bio

My name is Kathleen Crawford Hoffman. I'm a native of Charlottesville, Va., born during World War II, so that tells you a lot. My father, whose grave is maintained by someone else, was one of the original "Belmont Boys," and was born and grew up in Belmont. My mother's family moved to Charlottesville when she was three.

My husband is a descendant of the Germanna Colony Germans who later settled in Madison County, Va., and he has gravesites of ancestors and relatives all around the county. I've posted photos from the most interesting spot, a very small family cemetery not far from the town of Madison, but up in the hills, on a farm that was owned by his grandfather (who is not in the cemetery.) The site is surrounded by a stone wall, and has no entrance at all - you have to climb over, but there are steps to give you a boost. The land is no longer in the family.
