Mendooran (originally spelt as Mundooran) was inhabited by the Wiradjuri people prior to European settelement and is located approximately 75 from Dubbo and 71 km from Coonabarabran. It is the oldest town on the Castlereagh River and was an early main crossing point. Being in the vicinity of the Warrumbungles and the Goonoo National Park it is visited by people heading to these nearly sites. The town has a focus on agricultural pursuits and has large murals depicting its history. Mendooran was mentioned in the Banjo Paterson's poem "The Travelling Post Office."
The Cemetery is maintained by the Warrumbungle Shire and is located off the Dubbo Road just near the turnoff to Gilgandra. It is a large open rural cemetery with denominational sections which are not labeled or row marked. Family groupings apply in all areas.
