Lawrence M. Wotruba, 74, a Maribel resident, died Tuesday, July 28, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Lawrence was born April 4, 1924 in Maribel to the late Joseph and Margaret (Reedy) Wotruba. He was a lifelong resident of the Maribel area. On June 22, 1949, Lawrence married Arlene Hynek at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot and the couple enjoyed over 40 years together. He was an employee and part owner of Denmark Farm Equipment for 40 years. He was also part owner of Wotruba's Market until his retirement in 1995. Lawrence was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown where he was an usher for many years. He was a member of the Catholic Knights, the Maribel Lions Club and an assessor for the Village of Maribel for 34 years, retiring in 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene, Maribel; three sons, Larry (Donna) Wotruba, Randy (Rae Ann) Wotruba, and Joe (Lori) Wotruba, all of Maribel; two daughters, Julie (Dan Pantzlaff) and Jean (Scott) Simons, both of Denmark; 12 grandchildren: Anne (Kenley) Bruss, Denmark; Jesse Wotruba, Green Bay; Heather, Sarah, Megan, Randy and Brittney Wotruba, all of Maribel; Justin Loritz, Maribel; Amy and Jason Pantzlaff, Denmark; and Ben and Melissa Simons, Denmark; one brother, Martin (Betty) Wotruba, Cooperstown; two sisters, Mary (Ira) Ropson, Dycksville and Anna Shimon, Maribel; two sisters-in-law, Carol Wotruba, Green Bay and Evelyn Hussong, Maribel; mother-in-law, Anna Hynek, Maribel; further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and special friends.

Preceded by one brother, James, one sister-in-law, Beverly Wotruba; two brothers-in-law, Donald Shimon and Harlan Hussong; father-in-law, Joe Hynek and two nephews.

Friends may call at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 Cty. Hwy. R, Denmark from 4-9 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 1998 and after 9 a.m. Friday until the cortege leaves for Church; Parish prayer service 7:30 p.m. Thursday; Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown, with the Rev. Ronald Colombo officiating; Burial at the Parish cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Comfort Care Hospice nurses, Dr. Haverstein and Father Ron Colombo for their care and support.
