Alvin J. Wallander, 58, of Cato, died at work Thursday at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Reedsville Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. The Rev. Leander Nickel will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Wallander was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Town of Cato, son of the late Frank and Eva Straka Wallander. He graduated from Reedsville High School in 1928. He married Margret McCulley, Oct. 25, 1933 at Clarks Mills. They resided at Rt. 2, Reedsville, until 1959 and then moved to Cato. He was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., since 1951. Mr. Wallander was a member of Boilermakers Union No. 443, supervisor for the Town of Cato for 14 years and a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; six sons, William J. of Whitlaw, James A. of St. Nazianz, Jerome F. of Evansville, Ind., John L. , Charles G. and Richard A. all at home; seven daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Mary Joan) Halfke of Glenview, Ill., Sister Margret Ann of Waukesha, Mrs. Henry (Jean) Shimek of Reedsvuille, Mrs. John (Judy)Jacobs of Sonora, Calif., Mrs. Wayne (Dorothy) Dirkman of Milwaukee, Mrs. Richard (Eve) Engelbrecht of Evansville, Wis., and Donna at home; four brothers, Edward and William of rural Reedsville, John of Sheboygan and Louis of Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hickman of Manitowoc and Mrs. William Hickman of Cedarburg ad 25 grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 o’clock this Friday afternoon where a wake service will be at 7:30 o’clock.
