Joseph J. Schell of Brighton, a retired grain dealer, died Thursday at Platte Valley Medical Center. He was 77.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Rice Mortuary, Brighton. Private interment will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery.

He was born March 15, 1917, in Sterling. On April 3, 1945, he married Anne Kippes, in Sterling.

Schell served in the Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He enjoyed photography, classical music and travel.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Carol Ann, San Francisco, and Marilyn Davidson, Frederick; two sons, Joseph Jr., Akron, and Greg, Brighton; three brothers, Ralph, Mark, and Frank; seven sisters, Mert, Pauline, Mary, Barb, Anne, Betty and Mable; and three grandchildren.
