My Grandma had cows and chickens and made her own butter. She raised her own vegetables, sometimes selling them at the old Farmers Market at 38th and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. We used to stay with her and my two aunts, Minnie and Elizabeth when my Mom was in the hospital. As a child I thought my Grandmother took regular food and changed it somehow!
