GRANT SERVICES FOR RAYMOND A. SMITH
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, at the Methodist Church in Grant for Raymond Austin Smith, 39, Grant trucker, the Rev. A. Breeling and Rev. Carl B. Rayburn officiating. Mrs. Gerald Taylor and Mrs. Jack Taylor sang, “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “Beautiful Garden of Prayer.” accompanied by Janet Culbertson. In charge of the flowers were Mr. and mrs. Keneth Mueller and Mr. and Mrs. Don Bryson.
Casket bearers included Eddie Foote, Kenneth Erickson, Darrel Shafer, Junion Lenz, Joe Casey, Bob Mack, Delbert Starlin, and Howard Kenworthy. Interment was in the Grant Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by the Centennial Lodge No. 373, AF & AM and the Rupert Knoe Post No 445 of Grant.
Raymond Smith, son of Lester V. and Helen Embree Smith, was born May 10, 1923 in Cass County, Iowa and died at 4:30 a.m., February 4, 1963 at the Murphy Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, where he had been a patient for 12 days following a heart attack. He was married September 27, 1947 at Blair, Nebraska to Bette Kinser of Red Oak. He spent most of his life in Cass and Montgomery Counties and served this country in World War II. Mr. Smith was a member of the Grant Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the town council, and was assistant fire chief.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Michael David and Vernon Ray; a daughter Deborah Jean; his parents, a sister Mrs. John Ogden of near Red Oak.

C. Bastron, M.D, burial February 6, 1963 in Grant Cemetery, Bradley Wolfe Funeral Home, Villisca, Iowa.
