-- Virden, Ill. May 9-Henry D. Thomas, a resident of this city and vicinity since 1863, died last night at 6:35 o'clock at his home in the south part of the city, after a lingering illness with cancer of the stomach, aged 66 years and 8 months. The funeral services will be held to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian church, the Rev. William Porter officiating. Deceased was born on a farm near Carrollton, Greene county, where he grew to manhood. On Oct 23, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Lettie Martinette Vedder, and the next year they removed to their farm six miles east of this city. In 1870, they returned to Carrollton, where they resided for three years, then returned to the farm east of Virden. In 1883 they removed to this city, Mr. Thomas retiring from the farm. Seven children were born to them, six of them survive their father. The children are: Mrs. Charles Buriss, Frances S., Harry O., Mrs. Albert Ball and Pearl S. Thomas of this city, and William V. Thomas of Thomasville. Nettie died July 15, 1896; Mrs. Thomas died July 16, 1907. He leaves one brother and three sisters, viz: Lewis Thomas, Thomasville; Mrs. Matilda Clemmonds of Highland, Cal., and Mrs. Catherine M. Rainey of Carrollton. The funeral services will be held to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. William Porter.
