SPRINGFIELD, IL - William Eugene "Gene" Maisenbacher, 81, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015, at his home.

Gene was born in Springfield on March 5, 1934, the son of William and Mildred Kieffer Maisenbacher. He married Lucy Whitcomb on Aug. 30, 1952.

Gene retired from the State of Illinois, where he was employed as a draftsman for the Department of Transportation. In his spare time he enjoyed a multitude of hobbies, including playing golf, working with model trains, and rooting for his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. He belonged to the Eagles Club for many years and was a faithful member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucy; son, Ron Maisenbacher; brother, Don Maisenbacher; and sister, Chris Gedaminski.

Gene is survived by his children, Donald Wayne (wife, Mary) Maisenbacher and Judith Ann Moser, both of Springfield; four grandchildren: Sean (wife, Cindy) Moser, Josh Moser, Ryan (wife, Kasi) Maisenbacher, and Heather (husband, Mike) Briggs; seven great-grandchildren: Gabrielle and Carter Briggs, Isabella, Hailey, and Brady Moser, and Addyson and Landon Maisenbacher; beloved niece, Laurie Lewis; as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Jim Rappe, a very dear friend of Gene's, for his compassion and care.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Boardman-Smith Funeral home with the Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
