Wilma K. Whiteman, 97, of Wind Ridge, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.

She was born February 25, 1911, in Richhill Township (Long Run), a daughter of Thomas Rose Kinney and Laura Belle Wendell Tharp Kinney Cooper.

Mrs. Whiteman had resided in Snow Shoe for 30 years prior to returning to Greene County in 1977.

A 1929 graduate of the former Richhill Township High School, she was a member of Wind Ridge Christian Church but attended Harmony United Presbyterian Church in Wind Ridge for several years.

Mrs. Whiteman was a member of Richhill Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, American Legion Post 330 in Waynesburg and AARP.

She enjoyed reading and quilting.

Mrs. Whiteman was employed by the former Headley and Spragg Drug Store and Waynesburg Restaurant prior to being employed by Penn State University as a counter attendant in the cafeteria for 13 years, retiring in 1972.

She was a veteran of World War II, serving as a tech 5 with the 63rd WAC Hospital Company, and was proud of the nickname "Blue Angels" applied to the women in the medical support services.

On March 7, 1946, she married Marlin Roland "Muz" Whiteman, who died April 21, 1976.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
