OBITUARY :
SUSANNA HAINLEY KURTZ, widow of Peter Kurtz, died at her home at 228 Poplar street, Roaring Spring, from a stroke at 12.05 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Kurtz suffered a stroke about two years ago, although she recovered from the effect but on Saturday suffered the second attack which resulted in her death.
She was born in Sharpsburg, Aug. 14, 1840, and was a daughter of Christ. and Barbara Hainley, both deceased. She spent her girlhood days in the vicinity of her birth and on Dec. 15, 1864, was united in marriage with Peter Kurtz, who died at the age of 61 years. They resided in East Freedom and later moved to Duncansville and later to Missouri where they spent four years and then returned to Roaring Spring where she spent the past fifty-five years.
Mrs. Kurtz was a member of the Methodist church for more than fifty years and attended the services when she was able.
She was a charter member of the Ladies' Aid society of the church and a regular Sunday school attendant.
She is survived by three children, Mrs. Elizabeth Snowberger of Altoona, Andrew Kurtz of Mampa, Ida., and Harry Kurtz of Roaring Spring; also six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
