He was born Nov 26, 1950, in Sedalia, the son of Andrew Herman and Emilie Emma Kemper Gerke. On Mar 20, 1976, in California, MO, he was married to Karen Rose Mertens, who survives of the home.
Mr. Gerke worked for Gardner Denver for twenty - one years as a tool technician. He was a life long farmer. He loved cattle farming and going to the sale barn. He loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, and visiting with family and friends. He always helped anyone in need. He was a member of St. Patrick Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 831, where he was awarded Knight of the Year in 1999. He organized with the knights a fishing day for handicapped children at his farm lake. He also helped organize the annual Tootsie Roll Drive and the Lenten Fish Fry Dinners.
Also surviving are his mother, Emilie Emma Gerke, of Smithton, MO; one daughter, Kim Elizabeth Gerke, of Arlington, VA; two sons, Craig Andrew Gerke, of Paducah, KY, and Ron Scott Gerke, of Jefferson City, MO; one brother, Peter Gerke, of Sedalia; and five sisters, Emilie Herigon, of Bunceton, MO, Dorothy Bergman Brake, of Otterville, MO, Mary Gerke, of Kansas City, Margaret Ellebracht, and Pauline Starke, both of Sedalia; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, one infant son, Joseph Roy Gerke, and one sister, Martha Mae Schreck.
Pallbearers were Galen Lewis, Tim Mueller, Randy Johnson, Ron Cornine, Alan Mootz, and Robert Curtis. Honorary pallbearers were Jean Hood, Dee Moore, Ester Schultz, Glen Rose, Ed Selvey, Louis Schultz, and Victoria Kottman.
