CTO3 US NAVY
Steven Dexter Case, 64, of Rose Lodge, Ore., died March 12, 2012 at his home.
He was born Jan. 28, 1948, the only child of Mark C. Case and Lois Jean Pettey Case in Portland, Ore. Steve attended Sunset High School in Beaverton, and Portland State University. After graduation from college, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a cryptographer in Vietnam. Upon discharge from the Navy, he was a Multnomah County Sheriff; owned and operated Dexter's Burger House in Wood Village until it burned in 1985; then was a rural mail carrier in Hillsboro until he retired due to cancer in 2004.
He married Judy in Reno in 1984 and tried hard to be a good father to her four children as they became adults, married, and had children of their own. Upon Judy's retirement from the Oregon Zoo in 2008, Steve and Judy moved to the house they built on the banks of Slick Rock Creek in Rose Lodge.
Steve's favorite pastime was attending car shows and parades with his wife, kids and grandkids so he could show off his 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible and 1957 British Metro. He and Judy drove the Ford from Winchester Bay on the southern Oregon coast to Vancouver, Wash., and from Lincoln City to Corbett, Ore. for shows, winning numerous awards for both cars.
He was a member of Mensa, a member of Lincoln City Elks, and a life member of the VFW, Beaverton Post 4617.
Steve's parents, Mark and Jean, built Beaverton Bowl in 1955 and ran it until 1976. Steve was a national champion bowler in his youth and bowled several perfect games, the last shortly before he retired from the postal service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Lois Case.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Rose Lodge; daughter, Erin (Aaron); stepchildren, Konnie (Mario), Ken (Marge), Deneen (Bill) and Cynthia (Anthony); grandchildren, Amanda, David, Tyler, McKenna, McKayla, Gabriel, Hannah and Megan; and great-grandson, Chance.
Steve loved all animals; memorial donations may be made to the Oregon Humane Society. A private service will be held at a later date at Willamette National Cemetery.
