Verdabelle Butler-Goossens, 80, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday morning, Aug. 23, 2012, at Knox Community Hospital, after an extended illness.

Verdabelle was born Feb. 25, 1932, in Loudonville, and was the daughter of John and Freda (née Oswalt) Wise.

She attended Loudonville High School and was the 1947 LHS homecoming queen.

Verdabelle was a Mount Vernon resident since 1976, moving from Pittsburgh. She was the advertising manager for 16 years for Mount Vernon Broadcasting/WMVO and had previously worked as a receptionist at the former Memorial Hospital.

Verdabelle enjoyed collecting antiques, especially glassware, and was the former co-owner of Farley and Moore Antique Store, Mount Vernon.

She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Goossens, whom she married Feb. 14, 1982, in Hawaii; her daughter, Sue (Harold "Hersh") Long of Loudonville; three sons, Michael (Sandy) Butler of Pittsburgh, Stephen Butler of Kansas City and David (Amy) Butler of Granville; two stepsons, Dave (Deb) Goossens of Mount Gilead and Mark (Nancy) Goossens of Fredericktown; and six grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Banbury, Tiffany (Joshua) Campbell, Jeannine (Ryan) Gimbel, Jason Butler, Nicholas Butler and Luke Butler.

Also surviving are four stepgrandchildren, Alex Knueven, Mitchell Goossens, Lauren Goossens and Jory (Diana) Thompson; nine great-grandchildren, Hayden and McKenna Banbury, Evan, Owen, Avery, Ashlyn and Irelyn Campbell, and Ivan and Ava Gimbel; one stepgreat-grandchild, Haley Thompson; and her sister, Dorothy Christopher of Loudonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donald Sellers, in 1953; second husband, Charles Butler in 1975; and her sister, Joanne Edmondson.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with Pastor Rob Patterson officiating.

Private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
