Mr. Abernathy was retired from Tip Top Poultry and a member of Hickory Road Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mamie Abernathy; daughters, Martha Ann Abernathy and Joycie Yancey and son, Fred Abernathy; survivors include his children, Charles Abernathy of Canton, Roy Abernathy of Canton, Deborah Ingram of Woodstock, Brenda Jordan of Tiger, GA; siblings, Minnie Denton of Dallas, Sammy Abernathy of Canton, Junior Abernathy of Jasper, Betty West of Holly Springs, Doris Ellis of Holly Springs, Flora Setser of Waleska, Willene Sheffield of Canton, Helen Ragsdale of Canton and Billy Abernathy of Canton; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces , nephews and cousins.
