The Herald, Piedmont, West Virginia, 17 Sep 1926: "Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Brown, of Westernport, are celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary today. They were married at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport by Rev. Jeremiah O'Sullivan. Shortly after they had returned to Piedmont following the ceremony, high water washed out the bridge between Piedmont and Westernport. Three other couples were to have been married at the church by Father O'Sullivan that morning, but as they were unable to get to Westernport the weddings were postponed until the following day, when the priest came to Piedmont in a boat. The other couples were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lennan, now of Westernport, and Mr. and Mrs. M.P. Fahey, and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Niland, deceased. Mrs. James Garvey, now of Westernport, then Miss Bridget Tierney, was the bridesmaid for Mrs. Fahey. Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Davis and family, of Frederick, Md., and H.A. Moore, of Newport, Pa., will spend today here with Mr. and Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Davis is their daughter and Mr. Moore is their son-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Brown had thirteen children, seven sons and six daughters, of whom Mrs. Davis is the surviving daughter, and Leo, of Cumberland, Harry, of New York, Bernard, of Phillipsburg, Pa., Frank, of Montana, Will and James, of Westernport, are the surviving sons."
