NEWPORT – Alyce (Ludden) Hurlburt, 92, died Jan. 18, 2006, at a Pittsfield healthcare facility following a long illness. She was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Lee, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Giffords) Ludden. She attended Plymouth schools and was a graduate of Newport High School. She married John E. Hurlburt July 29, 1933 and they celebrated 70 years of marriage. John predeceased her May 28, 2004.

Alyce worked at Snowflake Canning in Corinna for many years until it burnt and then she worked as a stitcher and sewer for Dexter Shoe Co. in Dexter for several years. For many years John and Alyce spent their winters in Lake Wales, Fla. and their summers at their camp in Sangerville. Alyce and John were longtime members of the Lords and Ladies Square Dance Club and danced at many places throughout the state.

She is survived by two sons, Vaughn Hurlburt of Hampton, Va. and Dennis Hurlburt of Danville, Calif.; three daughters, Beulah Hanson of Eliot, Charlene Burbury of Whitensville, Mass. and Janice Moores of Newport.; one sister, Erma Hopkins of Plymouth; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, John Gailen Hurlburt in 1990.

Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 34 High St., Newport, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., with Pastor Al Worden officiating. (Philip Brown Funeral Home on-line)
