*Name "Atteberry" spelled differently in both instances in the following notice. Chico Weekly Enterprise, Friday Evening, October 11, 1889, pg 3 col 7: Married. Atterbury – Stewart – In Oroville, Oct. 7, 1889, at the residence of Geo. Barnard, by Rev. J. Garber, Hiram V. Atterberry and Miss Mary M. Stewart, both of Durham.

Chico Daily Enterprise, Friday evening, July 7, 1922: "Funeral Held for Mrs. Mary Atteberry. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon for Mrs. Mary M. Atterberry, 55, Durham matron, who died at her home early Thursday morning after an illness of several weeks. Rev. Galen Lee Rose, pastor of the Christian church officiated, and interment was made in the Dayton cemetery."

Note: Although marker states middle name is Mitilla, family records show her to be named Mary Matilda, daughter of William Stewart (d. 1892 in Shasta County) and Lenorah Matilda (Gudgel) Stewart Sutliff.

The family plot area has, as of May 1996, been surrounded by a 16 x 16 foot concrete coping. The area inside 4-inch high coping has also been filled in with red pea-gravel.
