Chesley E Taylor was born on November 6, 1863 in Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of John "Edward" Taylor (1835–1906) and Mary Catherine Harrison (Cullum) Taylor (1842–1912). {His obituary has him as the son of Ned Taylor.}

He was married to Annie Sue Barnes (1870–1938), the daughter of Charles Barnes and Mary Jane (Jones) Barnes.

A retired merchant living at ½ mile Charlotte Road, Nashville, Davidson County, he was 72 years old and married when he died at home of a cerebral hemorrhage on January 28, 1936.

Survivors included his widow Mrs Annie Sue Taylor, sister Mrs Jennie Woodruff and brothers Tom Taylor and Walter Taylor, all in Nashville.

Funeral Services were held on January 29th at the Taylor home, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
