Funeral services for Mary Ruth Anderson are 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Word of Truth Fellowship Church in Bartlesville. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Mary Ruth will be available for viewing until 12:45 P.M., Tuesday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service. Mary Ruth Anderson, 96, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. She was born August 23, 1917 in Alluwe to Elvada Dale (Minniear) and Earl Lumm. Mary Ruth was reared in Alluwe and received her education there. She graduated from Northeastern State Teacher's College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma with a teaching degree. Mary Ruth would teach for a total of 40 years before retiring. Her tenure included the rural schools of Nowata County, Ramona and Vera elementary schools and the last 10 years of her career were spent teaching eighth-grade science at Collinsville Middle School.

On June 1, 1939, Mary Ruth married Orville Dale Anderson at Tahlequah. Dale Anderson preceded his wife in death in 1998. In 2009, she moved from her home in Ramona to Bartlesville.

Mary Ruth was known for her gardening. Family and friends alike admired her beautiful flowers and were recipients of the many delicious vegetables that she grew and canned. She was an excellent cook and her specialty was her chicken & noodles. Mary Ruth had also given many handmade comforters to her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Ramona First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught youth and young adult Sunday school classes.

She is survived by four children, Mary Lou Glasgow and her husband, Robert of Coffeyville, Kansas, Robert Dale Anderson and his wife, Micheline of Bartlesville, Johnnie Earl Anderson of Bartlesville and Jimmie Joe Anderson of Ramona; three brothers, Albert and Ray Lumm of Nowata and Roy Lumm of Renton, Washington; one sister, Zella Linville of Hammon, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Mary Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; both parents; two daughters-in-law, Gayle and Karla Anderson; three brothers, Charles, David and Billy Lumm and by one sister, Edna Pickering.
