She was employed by the Department of Social Services as the District Manager for Division of Child Support Enforcement in Newport News and Chesapeake. She also serviced as an Usher, Trustee, Church Clerk, President of the Women's Missionary Society, member of the Finance Committee, Choir member, Community Prayer Band, the Hospitality Committee of Greater Bethel AME Church, and the First Lady of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Rev. Dr. William H. Chatman, daughter, Temesha Lynn and husband, Daniel Hostetler; siblings, Barbara J. Brown (Calvin), Joseph III (Ada), Walter (Temple), Glenn (Rosie), Carol (David), Sharon Foreman (Anthony), Kelvin and James (Lynda); 22 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24th at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 141 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. The celebration Jeraldine Harris Chatman's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Greater Bethel AME Church at 2320 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, Rev. Herbert Gibbs, pastor will be officiating and Rev. Dr. William H. Chatman will be the Eulogist. The interment will at Roosevelt memorial Park. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake is in charge of arrangements.
