Engineer-Gunner of the "Ruptured Duck", the 7th aircraft to depart the USS Hornet in the Doolittle Raid on Japan, 18 April, 1942. After bombing Tokyo, the "Ruptured Duck" flew to China, but because they had to depart the Hornet early they didn't have enough fuel to make their destination in China and crash landed off the coast of China. Dave was the least injured of the 5 crewmen and his actions saved their lives. For his actions in saving the crew he was awarded the Silver Star. His passing leaves only one man surviving from the Doolittle Raid, Richard Cole. ---Please see his wife Margaret's site for information about his life after service to his country.
