Esther was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Webb and Eliza Moore. On 14 Aug 1879 she married Joshua B. Comley and they had five children: Lily, William, Ulysses, Anna and Lee Roy. Shortly after the birth of Lee Roy, Joshua became involved with a young Cherokee Indian girl by the name of Sarah Rebecca Tapp. Joshua abandoned Eliza and the children and ran off with Sarah, settling in Anderson, Indiana. By 1893 Esther had moved the family to Louisville, Kentucky, where she found work in the tobacco barns and factories which were prevalent there at that time. It appears likely that about 1905 Esther moved to Anderson, Indiana, probably to be near her daughter Lily who also lived there. Esther died at the county poor farm of paralysis and insanity at the age of 43. She was buried in the poor farm cemetery in an unmarked grave as is the case with all those who are interred there.
